Green travel plan for Scotland

With traffic in Scotland set to increase by 27% over the next 20 years 1, The Scottish Executive has an ongoing commitment to minimise the impact of travel on the environment both in terms of reducing the level of unnecessary travel and also limiting the emissions of greenhouse gases.

To support the Scottish Executive’s goals, Halcrow has been appointed to undertake a detailed study of travel plan activity throughout Scotland. The aim of the research is to provide a clear, detailed picture of green travel planning through the targeting of three key groups: local authorities, regional bodies and transport partnerships and large employers

The research will be undertaken over a period of six months and will involve a number of consultation exercises with the key groups.

The results of the Halcrow study will identify possible barriers to travel planning and a number of solutions and recommendations to be taken forward by the Scottish Executive and local authorities. It is hoped that when all the data is collected and reviewed it will promote the development of successful travel plans in the future.
