Halcrow ranked 44th in top companies league
Halcrow has moved up four places in this year’s Sunday Times Top Track 250 league table to 44th position.
Complied by Fast Track, the second annual league table was published in The Sunday Times on 15 October 2006, with title sponsors HSBC and main sponsors KPMG.
Describing Halcrow, The Sunday Times said: “If the Great Wall of China were were being built today, Halcrow would be on the case. This employee-owned engineering consultancy has just helped to deliver the £470 million Chongzun Expressway in central China. With other projects as diverse as the expansion of Jebel Ali port in Dubai, flood alleviation in the Norfolk Broads, the High Speed 1, Channel Tunnel Rail Link, and Chengdu Panda Park in China, the London firm is certainly versatile. Set up in 1868, Halcrow has specialists working in 70 countries, and had sales of £280.5m in 2005.”
Top Track 250 ranks Britain’s biggest middle-market private companies, based on sales in their latest accounts. Murray International, owned and run by Scottish entrepreneur David Murray, is the top company with sales of £378 million. Other well-known names include leisure giant The Tussauds Group; Sunseeker, the luxury boat builder; Chelsea and Manchester United Football Clubs; and Weetabix, the breakfast cereal maker.
