UK: Peterborough office celebrate 20 years in the city
Halcrow’s Peterborough office started its 20th year in the city on 27 September with a lunchtime party. The office approached Peterborough High School to add some fun to the occasion by taking part in a cake competition.
Student in years 7 – 11 volunteered to take part and worked hard to bake cakes in preparation for the birthday cake competition. They all researched their cakes by looking at Halcrow on the internet and came up with some impressive designs, giving up their spare time to bake their culinary masterpieces.
The cakes were judged by three Halcrow employees, local authority sector manager Sheila Corkett, graduate engineer Simon Morris and regional director Gareth Heatley. Judging categories included taste, presentation, originality, use of ingredients and overall winner.
The winner of the competition received a collection of Halcrow goodies and book vouchers. Local shop the Party Place also kindly donated vouchers for free helium balloons.
“It was fantastic to have Peterborough High School on board to help us celebrate our birthday. I hope they enjoyed their time with us and learnt a little bit about engineering,” Halcrow’s regional director Gareth Heatley said. “It’s wonderful to be celebrating twenty years of being in Peterborough – it’s an exciting time for the city and we’re proud to be part of that. Supporting local schools and events such as the Great Eastern Run has really helped us to become part of the community.”
“The students responded enthusiastically to Halcrow’s challenge and have created some wonderful designs to help celebrate the start of the company’s 20th year in Peterborough. They certainly had a lot of fun in the process!” commented Peterborough High School’s head teacher Pauline Facy. “We wish the company every success in the future.”
