News feeds enable users to see when new content has been added to Halcrow.com. All the latest headlines and video updates can be viewed as soon as they are published, without having to visit the website.
Known as Really Simple Syndication, the feeds are web pages, created to be read by computers.
How can I start using RSS feeds?
Firstly, you will need a news reader - a piece of software that checks the feeds and allows you to read any new content. There are a multitude of different versions, either accessed via a browser or as downloadable applications.
Downloadable applications let users store news items on their computer, while browser-based news readers allow you to access your RSS feed subscriptions from any computer.
Look for this icon on the news pages. Having clicked on the RSS button you can subscribe to the feed in two ways:
1. drag the feed URL into your news reader
2. cut and paste the URL into your news reader.
Modern browsers will usually detect RSS feeds on websites and format them appropriately. Browsers such as Internet Explorer 7, Firefox, Opera and Safari, will also ask you if you wish to subscribe.
For those without a news reader, you will see a page decorated with XML code. This is perfectly normal and means that you need to use one of the mentioned applications.
How do I select a news reader?
There are many different news readers on the market, with new versions appearing all the time. Each news reader works on a different operating platform, so choose one that will work with your computer.
