Dam engineering
careers

Dams and Hydraulic Structures skill group is Halcrow's centre of expertise for engineering inputs to the planning, evaluation, design and implementation of systems to harness fresh water for human and environmental benefit. From our centres in Swindon, Leeds and New Delhi our staff are involved in a wide range of projects throughout the world.
In UK, our work ranges from specialist engineering advice on 3 major new dams that will help reduce the risk of floods in Glasgow, to leading the development of a flood management strategy for the lower Thames. Our engineers appointed to the All Reservoirs and other Panels constituted under the Reservoirs Act 1975 are engaged on the inspection and remediation of dams and associated structures throughout mainland Britain, including hydropower, flood control and water supply facilities.
Internationally, our work includes river basin planning, watershed management, flood control, hydropower development and irrigation engineering projects. This is exemplified by our expanding group in India, which is active on a number of small-medium sized hydropower schemes in the Himalayas and in the design of a major flood relief channel to help protect oilfield production facilities; and by our leadership of integrated resource development studies for the Rift Valley river basins in Ethiopia. The latter will formulate the strategy for future sustainable development of land and water resources in the basins, and prepare projects for international funding that are aligned to it.
