River Defence Survey (RDS)
Halcrow collected the data, then created the databases that were migrated to the EA's National Flood and Coastal Defence Database.
Our engineering work encompasses all types of in-channel structures, gates and weirs as well as hard and soft bank protection and realignment. Services offered cover the full life of a project – from feasibility and option assessment though detailed design and the presentation of contract documentation to the supervision of construction works and administration of contracts. We also provide leading advice on flood insurance, institutional and cost-recovery mechanisms.
Our river engineering staff in the UK are located across the country in a number of offices and through this network we are able to offer a local service supported by a full range of in-house expertise. Drawing on the large, and growing, resource base, we are able to respond to supply/ demand changes. Essential to the service Halcrow can offer is our ability to capture the experience and best practice invested in the group as well as an active role within associated professional and research bodies. We operate an internal network of selected theme coordinators who are responsible for the coordination of knowledge management within the many areas embraced by ‘river engineering’.
