Engineering Survey is a wide ranging skill area encompassing all construction related surveying services and activities, as well as precise deformation monitoring.

Such services include:

Dimensional control for large & small scale projects
Preliminary setting out
Setting out checks
Pre pour checks
As built records & reports
Control & monitoring of structures during construction

The expertise of our staff has been developed over a number of years, on major civil engineering projects, including:

cable stay bridge construction
push launch & balanced cantilever viaducts
tunnelling operations
air & rail infrastructure improvements
property & land developments

Deformation Monitoring

This is a specialist area of survey, involving the sub-millimetric and millimetric monitoring of vertical, horizontal and rotational movements of manmade and natural structures. High precision survey instrumentation and rigorous survey methods are used to ensure appropriate accuracies and measurement repeatability is achieved.

The setup and installation of a monitoring surveys requires a careful reconnaissance of the site, to ensure that appropriate vertical and horizontal networks are installed, providing for rigorous network design and establishing control stations outside of the zone of influence of probable deformation. The installation of the actual monitoring points needs careful consideration, to ensure that the areas of concern within the structure are adequately monitored.
The use of high precision total stations, optical plummets, precise prisms, precise digital levels, and biaxial & uniaxial tiltmeters combined with appropriate network design ensure that the required accuracies are met.

Processing of the horizontal and vertical observations is undertaken using least squares to provide statistical and reliability analysis of the results. The computed results are shown in both tabular and graphical format, showing absolute and relative movements, and movement trends.

In addition, we have the capability to undertake sub-surface monitoring of boreholes, using inclinometers, reed switches and piezometers.Deformation and monitoring can also be undertaken using terrestrial laser scanning techniques. This methodology is particularly suited to the monitoring of landslips, coastal and river cliffs.
