Halcrow has wide experience in the design and operation of landfill sites for both conventional municipal solid waste and also for specialist applications such as low-level nuclear waste and burial facilities for animals destroyed in a Foot and Mouth Disease epidemic.
Our experience includes the investigation, analysis, design and construction supervision of schemes of remedial engineering (such as passive or reactive in-ground barriers) to protect the environment from the effects of former “dilute and disperse” landfill sites.
Similarly, where development (buildings, highways, amenities) has been required over a disused landfill, engineering solutions have been provided to manage and control the attendant risks.
Third party engineering audits of schemes are undertaken for Regulators.
