Geomorphology is the study of landforms and near-surface materials, and provides an understanding of their origin, development and sensitivity to change. Timely application of geomorphological skills to planning, environmental and engineering projects often results in substantial cost savings.

Using state-of-the-art technology, including digital photogrammetry, remote sensing, and Geographic Information Systems, geomorphology has applications at national, regional and site scales, covering:

exploratory and reconnaissance surveys
resource and geohazard inventories
appraisal of geohazards and resources
regional planning
emergency response
feasibility studies
assessment geohazards such as unstable land
