Electrical - power

The electrical team employed at Halcrow has acquired good working knowledge and experience of working with regional electricity companies (REC).

HV to LV 1250kVA transformer

Halcrow can liaise with RECs for the provision of timely electrical supplies. This can be a more complex exercise if your project incorporates parallel power generation derived from an on-site generator set.

Electrical supplies can be derived from various sources. Two methods are shown; Pole mounted overhead LV supply and a ground mounted HV to LV transformer.

Whatever the type of supply required our electrical engineers can advise you on load characteristics, requirements and supply size.

If you are required to bund any fuel stored at your premises our electrical and civil engineers can design a slab suitable for containing oil coolant for your ground mounted transformer. Please click here if you are unsure as to whether you are required by law to bund contaminants.

Generation

In today’s world, power outages can mean large financial losses whether it is the loss of data flow or the interruption of a manufacturing process. Standby power facilities can provide near business continuity. After a power failure a standby system can be on-line within seconds.

Our electrical engineers have a wealth of experience in providing solutions for emergency/standby power and parallel generated power requirements. Halcrow can advise you on generation needs by providing a full range of consulting services including business analysis, concept and feasibility studies and decision support.

From the provision of feasibility studies to the development of turnkey projects, we offer complete solutions tailored to the specific requirements of our customers. Our experience includes developments ranging from a few kilowatts to megawatts.

Noise attenuated Diesel fuelled 1250kVA standby generator

Halcrow has provided power generation solutions and engineering services to a number of clients within the water sector and industry including: Hydro and Wind generation and electrical supply distribution.

We can provide full specifications detailing your requirements and liaise with the generator manufacturer from initial consultations to factory acceptance tests.

Further to developing specifications for the provision of generation equipment, Halcrow can develop specifications for the manufacture of control panels, auto-changeover panels and generator supply incomer cubicles, all of which could be integrated with your existing system.

Whether the system is used for standby power or for importing power parallel to the grid we can provide solutions that offer controlled power transfers, peak-lopping or peaking power.

Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS)

Another method of providing uptime to a system is through the use of UPS units. These units can be incorporated to supply power upon mains failure, to a computer system or a device that sends and receives signals that operates hardware.

Halcrow electrical engineers can provide advice and information with regards to the application of UPS systems to services used within the utilities
