Water treatment

Drinking water

Halcrow offers a full consultancy service in the design and installation of control and equipment for water treatment processes.

Iron and manganese removal

Halcrow has in-depth experience in the removal of iron and manganese from both ground and surface waters by a variety of different processes.

Advanced oxidation and activated carbon

The removal of pesticides, trihalomethanes, taste, colour and odours in surface waters can prove particularly difficult, often requiring advanced oxidation and adsorption process.

Halcrow's experience includes the design and installation of ozone and granulated activated carbon absorption systems.

Micro filtration

Cryptosporidium oocysts are sometimes present in certain raw water sources, particularly in surface water reservoirs, direct abstraction and in some ground waters.

Depending on the level of risk of cryptosporidium pollution, water companies are required to install filtration systems in the main process stream and sometimes in filter washwater recycling systems to remove the cryptosporidium oocysts.

Halcrow has experience of both pilot trials and the design and installation of microfiltration systems for filter washwater recovery and main process streams.

Disinfection

Disinfection of the final treated water can be undertaken with a variety of methods. Halcrow has been responsible for the design and installation of numerous disinfection plants.

Techniques employed have included gas chlorination, liquid hypochlorite, chlorine dioxide, on-site electrolytic chlorination, ammoniation, UV irradiation and ozonation.
