Container terminals and ports

Halcrow is involved in the complete range of commercial and industrial port and marine terminal development. Projects have included rehabilitating, upgrading, and improving operational efficiency of existing terminals, to the creation of major new grass roots ports and terminals. In each case, the focus of Halcrow's effort has been to increase productivity and maximize operational efficiency, while minimizing life cycle costs. Facilities are planned and designed to satisfy not only current needs, but to provide for future requirements and technological changes, all in an environmentally responsible manner, creating state-of-the-art, efficient, and cost-effective facilities.
In a modern port, specialized terminals are provided to accommodate the requirements of particular types of vessels and cargoes. These terminals are generally classified as container, liquid bulk, dry bulk, break-bulk, Ro-Ro, and passenger/cruise, with additional types for specialized purposes. Halcrow has had substantial involvement in virtually all types of terminals.
In addition to its usual services for port authorities, terminal owners/operators, and maritime carriers, Halcrow has provided master planning and project evaluation services for lending institutions and government agencies such as the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, the Inter-American Investment Corporation, and the United States Trade and Development Agency. Completed projects include a wide range of commercial and industrial ports and terminals in virtually every region of the world, from the Arctic to the Antarctic, including North America, Latin America and the Caribbean, the Middle East, Africa, the Far East, and the Pacific Rim.
