Construction materials in the Middle East

contacts: David Pocock | Alaa Hassanein

Halcrow materials specialists have long association with working in desert conditions from Libya alongside the Mediterranean to Oman on the shores of the Indian Ocean.

Halcrow were at the forefront of the development of materials and concrete properties for these areas and contributed extensively to the 1984 CIRIA Guide to Concrete Construction in the Gulf Region and its successor the 2002 CIRIA / Concrete Society Guide to the Construction of Reinforced Concrete in the Arabian Peninsula.

Our specialists have:

carried out aggregate resources surveys
advised on extraction, selection, crushing, screening and if necessary washing processes for aggregates
audited construction materials and processes
specified concrete materials for the adverse environmental conditions and undertaken durability planning
undertaken thermal analyses of large pours
carried out inspections and surveys. Modelled deterioration processes to determine service life and to develop whole-life costings
developed repair, protection and maintenance programmes
successfully implemented chloride extraction from reinforced concrete structures
designed cathodic protection systems for a wide range of structures
