  scope

Halcrow is the National Assembly for Wales's agent for the design and construction of the A470 Dolwyddelan to Pont-yr-Afanc Improvement in North Wales. The scheme consists of on-line improvement of 7.2 kilometres of single carriageway lying within Snowdonia National Park. The project involves preparation of a detailed illustrative design, orders, environmental statement, tender documents, tender assessment and award and contract administration.

The project is part of the A470 Blaenau Ffestiniog to Betws-y-Coed Improvement Scheme. The A470 trunk road provides an important link in the road network of Wales for local, commercial and tourist traffic. The section between Dolwyddelan and Pont-yr-Afanc lies along the Lledr Valley within Snowdonia National Park, an area of internationally recognised scenic value. Much of the existing road is narrow with a twisting alignment and there are frequent accidents.
