The Environment Agency has awarded Halcrow a commission for the planning, design and supervision of one of the largest land drainage stations in the UK, north of Liverpool.

On the banks of the River Alt at Formby, Altmouth, is one of the biggest pumping stations in Europe with a capacity to handle flows of over 83m3 per second. The £8-million project to rebuild it will ensure flood protection is maintained for the surrounding communities.

The project team is be based in Halcrow's Manchester office.
