Halcrow provided the Commissioning Manager and a team of engineers to develop a commissioning strategy, program and all supporting documentation, then conduct final works inspections, and managed the electrification works, testing and commissioning of the 25kV auto transformer Power Supply and OHLE system of Boston to Newhaven section of Amtrak’s ‘Acela' high speed line in north-eastern USA. These major works were carried out around a live and running rail service on this important corridor.
In a related commission, Halcrow also provided the project management for Amtrak to test the dynamic performance of the Alstom-Bombardier Produced 'acela' High Speed Tilting Train at the OHLE-Pantograph interface in association with SERCo Railtest.
The overall scope of services covered the Commissioning strategy, the programme of works and all its supporting documentation, and the management of the works inspections, testing and commissioning.
The project also managed the dynamic performance testing of the 'acela' for Amtrak.
