Halcrow was appointed to engineer improvements to existing port facilities to deepen the berth pocket in front of the existing 275m long blockwork quay wall and to design a 145m quay wall extension so that multiple vessels of larger draught can be accommodated. The berth pocket was to be deepened by 1m.

The geotechnical input included reviewing the existing design and geotechnical factual reports, proposing ground investigation and laboratory testing, interpretation of ground conditions and stability analyses.

The analysis included global, bearing and sliding stability of the quay wall with a determination of likely settlements.
