Halcrow has provided multi-disciplinary services for the regeneration of Calder Leadworks, Tyneside, including:

• design, management and interpretation of a geotechnical and contamination investigation
• Type 3 asbestos and other pre-demolition surveys
  design and supervision of demolition and site clearance
• ground improvement works, including remediation of contamination, design and supervision of highways, foul and surface water drainage, utilities provision and retaining walls
• treatment of shallow abandoned mine workings

Through collaborative working with the Environment Agency and our client, we were able to map out a strategy for further modelling and analysis of ground conditions, including analysis of the impact of dilution on river contamination. This aspect of the planning permission was successfully discharged without the need for costly remediation
