Cigar Lake Mine is situated at the southern rim of the Athabasca Basin approximately 650km north of Saskatoon and will have a predicted operational life of up to 41 years.
key factors:
 |
steel fibre reinforced segmental lining |
 |
detail design to allow for ground and lining deformation under freeze
pressure |
 |
design of steel encased section to allow for large drill holes |
 |
provision of site engineers and foremen for training and supervision |
Design development, detail
design and site engineering
services for the development
of over 40 mining drifts below
an ore body using 4.25m
diameter fibre reinforced
segmental linings.
The drifts are being
constructed at two levels
using a purpose built rock
TBM to provide access to
allow for ground freezing
operations and ore extraction
to take place.
During construction, Halcrow
provided site engineers and
site foremen with TBM and
segmental lining experience to
help train the local work force
and optimise construction
rates to suit the TBM and the
mine development
programme.
