Halcrow is working on the geomorphology of part of the Cumbrian coast in order to make projections of future landform change.
Work has included investigations into the Quaternary evolution of the region, analysis of historical change using ortho-rectified aerial photographs, and detailed geomorphological mapping. These data have been used to sub-divide the coastal system into a number of discrete landform units.
The likely future evolution of these landform units has been modelled over a range of timescales using various scenarios that include climate change and sea-level rise.
