Halcrow carried out a flood risk assessment for a new homeless hostel in York.

The development was at high flood risk from the River Foss, had a high vulnerability land use, and the mitigation which could be applied was limited because the building frontage was listed.

We worked closely with the client to make sure that the procedure they followed could be used to fulfil the requirements of the sequential test. We liaised with the Environment Agency to come up with a series of mitigation measures to overcome the high flood risk and restrictive nature of the site.
