Financial support has been provided for the repair and reconstruction of houses belonging to 15 local Halcrow project staff members and their families caught up in the tsunami.

All beneficiaries are local Acehnese employees of the association of firms that Halcrow leads on the Asian Development Bank-funded Northern Sumatra Irrigated Agriculture Project.

Along with two long-term Halcrow expatriate staff, the project team includes 46 national consultants and local support staff. Five members of the project’s consultant staff were killed when the tsunami struck. Many others lost close family and friends, as well as homes and personal possessions.
