This project comprises 16.3 km of continuous loop tunnel, 8m span, below mountainous terrain at 400m maximum depth.

Halcrow, in association with HBI Haerter, provided the successful tender consortium, led by Daewoo Corporation, with a technical review and detailed advice on all aspects of tunnel design and construction. This included a risk assessment in relation to tunnelling through previously mined coal measures and potentially karstic limestone, that resulted in the selection of drill-and-blast methods, rather than tunnel boring machines.

Halcrow is providing further expert assistance as needed during construction.
