Scope:

The scheme is part of the N9/N10 Dublin to Waterford National Primary Route and covers the section of the N9 between Powertstown and Prumplestown, east of the town of Carlow. The proposed new dual carriageway will form a section of the N9 Dublin to Waterford high quality dual carriageway road, and will replace a section of the existing single carriageway N9 through the centre of Carlow.

The contract is a Design and Build type contract. The contract comprises 20km of new dual (2 lane plus hard shoulder each way) carriageway, 3 major grade separated interchanges, 19 major structures (underbridges and overbridges), 24 major culverts, accommodations works, public ut! ility diversions, public lighting, landscape and environmental mitigation works. Detailed design started in January 2006, construction is due to start in April, and be completed by autumn 2007.
