Halcrow was commissioned to develop short-term and long-term, sustainable solutions to odour and sludge disposal at a 3.7 million population STW in Santiago, Chile. This required a technical, environmental and economic analysis of treatment opportunities and sludge disposal routes.

As part of this analysis Halcrow undertook an audit of existing facilities which provided the operator with some immediate methods to mitigate odour nuisance and ease sludge management.

Halcrow brought the experience of other water companies, world-wide, into the project. This experience included the technical and practical merits of sludge treatment technologies.
