Halcrow has been employed to provide specialist geotechnical and landfill engineering design in relation to its broader disciplinary functions (including planning and engineering) for the redevelopment of three former landfills in Northampton.

The scheme is pivotal to a strategy to regenerate and revitalise large areas of the town.

The work covers a broad range of activities including:

• preliminary studies to guide the scoping and master-planning processes
• ground investigation to delineate geo-hazard and provide information for design
• groundwater modelling, quantitative environmental risk assessment and remedial engineering design
• regulatory approvals
• remedial environmental engineering including reactive barriers, passive barriers, gas venting and landfill capping enhancement
• ground improvement design, including Dynamic Compaction, high energy rapid compaction, soil-mix improvement, geo-grid reinforcement and vibro-replacement
• geotechnical design for highways and infrastructure
• construction monitoring
