Halcrow were commissioned by the Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) to undertake the permanent way design for Phase 1 of the 54 km long Western Corridor Railway project (West Rail) in Hong Kong.
The brief was to provide a safe, robust and reliable design with minimum maintenance requirements for an intensely trafficked railway.
Detailed designs and specifications were prepared to clearly define the concept and form of the permanent way, while enabling manufacturing flexibility for the contractor.

Technical Study involving: full design and specification of plain line tracks, outline design and specification of special trackwork for detailed manufacturing design by the contractor, design of noise and vibration attenuating track forms, review and refine the railway alignment.
