Halcrow has been chosen to develop infrastructure and marine facilities at the port of Ras Laffan, 80km north of Doha, Qatar.
Port of Ras Laffan is one of the largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facilities in the world. Qatar is set to become the world leader in LNG by 2012 through exports to Japan, Korea, India, Spain, Italy, UK and the USA.
The existing master plan identifies the facilities required for expansion of the port to accommodate the volume of traffic up to the year 2024. This mega LNG port expansion covers a 32 square miles area, and substantially increases the volume of LNG and liquid product exports. It also takes into account expansion requirements for export and/or import of dry cargo, containers, general cargo, and various forms of construction cargo.
Halcrow is preparing the front end engineering design package and engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning bidding document based on the master plan.
