Halcrow was appointed by COWI-Larsen JV, design and construction management consultants for the new airport terminals at Seeb and Salalah Airports in Oman, to conduct a design review by means of simulation.

The new terminal building at Seeb, Muscat, has been designed to accommodate 12 million passengers in a first phase due to open 2010. The smaller development at Salalah Airport in southern Oman will have an opening capacity of 2 million passengers.

We use our airport modelling software, ARCport ALT, to undertake simulation for analysis of passenger flows, congestion and design suitability for a number of different scenarios, as well as the optimisation of particular processing areas, such as security, immigration and check-in. It is forecast that Seeb International will handle a majority of transfer traffic, so transfer flows and travel times are assessed as part of the simulation. The Baggage Handling System is modelled in its entirety to provide key operational feedback and service time information.
