scope

Halcrow is the lead consultant of a team that has been appointed to undertake the design for the completion of the St Petersburg navigation and flood protection barrier.

The flood protection barrier aims to protect the city from flooding, for events up to a return period of 1 in 1,000 years, caused by fast flowing tidal storm surges originating from the Gulf of Finland.

The barrier is 25.4 km long and located across the Neva Bay; it connects Kotlin Island with Gorskaya on the northern shore of Neva Bay and with Bronka on the southern shore.
