Halcrow carried out the design and site supervision for Stanwell Diversion Flood Alleviation Works, which included the construction of two flood diversion channels with offtake structures at the head of each.

Diversion channels were chosen because the environment value of the river corridor precluded other forms of flood alleviation.

The Works were presented with the ICE London Association's Merit Award for work completed in 2001.
