scope
At 1.5km, this project is the longest section of guided busway in the UK. It allows buses to bypass the congested road system between Edinburgh Park and the city centre and has been designed to accommodate the city's new tram system when it begins operating in 2009.
Project managed by Halcrow on behalf of Transport Initiatives Edinburgh (tie) from inception through to construction, the scheme has shaved up to 15 minutes off journey times into the city centre at peak times and has encouraged a shift away from use of the car.
Beating a short-list of eight transport projects, Halcrow's West Edinburgh Busway Project scooped the award for ‘Most Innovative Transport Project in Scotland’ at the prestigious Scottish Transport 2005 Awards.
benefits to client
