Scope

Upgrading of runway, taxiways and aprons to facilitate construction of Nimrod MRA4. New drainage to aprons.  Value engineered solution to give limited life requirement of 10 years. Project procured as part of a partnering agreement as pilot scheme for BAE Systems Synergy Project delivery for which it was awarded BAE Chairmans award.  Partnering agreement under PC2000 contract included cost saving share and innovations initiatives.
Follow on projects included resurfacing of runway and drainage improvements at BAE Marine Walney Island (Barrow) and further works at Woodford including construction of ‘bump test’ facility for type approval of MRA4 and investigation into long term deep seated settlement of runway by use of FWD and GPS.
