ISIS Professional - River modelling software

ISIS 2D has been developed by Halcrow and is a 2D fully hydrodynamic computational engine designed to work either standalone or within the ISIS suite of products enabling dynamic interaction between ISIS Professional (1D) and ISIS 2D.

ISIS 2D is the latest addition to the ISIS by Halcrow suite of products and has been developed to complement WBM’s 2D modelling software; TUFLOW. ISIS 2D provides a licensing and pricing structure that allows you to purchase only what you need and provides the opportunity of networking licences. The ISIS 2D licensing is linked with ISIS Professional (1D) so the software is easier to deploy to the user.

ISIS 2D is available for free and can be downloaded from our website. The software is restricted to 250 1D nodes and 2,500 2D cells but can be used effectively for smaller modelling projects.

At the core of ISIS 2D, there are two numerical integrated solvers; the ADI (Alternating Direction Implicit) and TVD (Total Variation Diminishing) solvers. These have been specifically developed to tackle different types of hydraulic conditions within rivers, estuaries, floodplains, etc.

These solvers are based on the long established DIVAST (Depth Integrated Velocities and Solute Transport) numerical engine, which originates from more than 20 years of research by Professor Roger Falconer and Professor Binliang Lin of the School of Engineering, Cardiff University.

The ISIS 2D ADI solver has been in development for 20+ years, with the TVD solver in development since 2007. The TVD solver allows complex hydraulics to be calculated more accurately; especially useful when considering dam breaks, breaches in defences or rapid flow around buildings. It provides increased stability as TVD solutions are less prone to numerical oscillations than other solvers

The numerical solvers within ISIS 2D have been used on hundreds of studies throughout the world for various hydraulic and environmental studies. They have been tested and shown to be robust and accurate for a wide range of applications and conditions and are widely used by government organisations, consultants and research establishments.
