ISIS Professional
ISIS is one of the leading software packages for river modelling. It is used extensively throughout the world on flood forecasting, flood alleviation scheme designs, flood risk mapping, flood risk assessments and catchment management planning projects. It provides engineers and manager's with flexible and cost effective tools so that they can make decisions to proactively manage our environment.
ISIS Professional is available in 1000 node and unlimited node editions and as ISIS Free which provides the full functionality of ISIS Professional, but limited to 200 nodes and with size restrictions on ISIS Mapper input files.
ISIS is designed on an open, flexible and modular framework, containing:
- the main interface used for model building and results processing
- the computational engine for running simulations
- results postprocessors and utility routines are provided separately
- ISIS Mapper, used for model building and results postprocessing, including flood mapping
- a run forms interface used to specify the run parameters

The ISIS data file is based on both an open and transparent file structure whereby event-specific data can be provided separately from the main static data file if required. This modularity provides the framework and flexibility needed by both the novice and experienced user and allows users to customise the functionality to meet specific needs.
ISIS is able to model:
- steady, unsteady, subcritical, superctical and transitional flows
- complex looped and branched networks
- comprehensive range of structures (including logical rules)
- offline storage and floodplain flows
- Muskingum-Cunge routing
- hydrology (including FEH, ReFH, USSCS)

A key strength of ISIS is its flexibility to represent floodplain flows by use of fast and efficient 1D or quasi-2D flow simulations or through advanced dynamic coupling to 2D solvers to enable a detailed understanding of complex 2D urban and floodplain flow routes.
Through add on modules ISIS directly links to the following:
- 2D solvers (including TUFLOW and ISIS 2D)
- sediment transport module (ISIS SED)
- water quality module (ISIS WQ)
ISIS also integrates with many related external software packages including the Environment Agency’s (England and Wales) Modelling Decision Support Framework (MDSF) and their National Flood Forecasting System (NFFS) and the Conveyance Estimation System (CES).
