Training Course Presenters

The presenters for our courses are all highly qualified individuals with many years experience in their discipline. A summary of some of our presenters backgrounds are shown below.

Laura Baird (BSc, PhD)

Laura Baird

Laura is a principal hydrologist who joined Halcrow in 1990. Laura is one of Halcrow’s most experienced UK flood hydrologists and provides expert hydrology advice to offices across Halcrow. Laura advises on CFMP’s, flood mapping, flood forecasting and warning, flood risk assessments, reservoir safety, standard of protection and feasibility studies. Laura has run FEH training courses for the last four years.

Donna Wilson (BSc, MSc, PhD)

Laura Baird

Donna is a hydrologist who joined Halcrow in 2005; prior to this she held a lectureship at King’s College London teaching both undergraduate and masters students. Donna specialises in flood estimation procedures and hydrological modelling for flood mapping and flood risk assessments.

Richard Crowder (BSc, PhD, CEng, MICE, MCIWEM)

Laura Baird

Richard is the Halcrow Framework Manger for the Strategic Flood Risk Management Framework with the Environment Agency. Richard is actively involved in R&D and is an expert in river and coastal hydraulics and water quality modelling, computational hydraulics (1D, 2D & 3D), software development and software benchmarking.

Damian Debski (BA, MSc, CEng, MCIWEM)

Laura Baird

Damian is a senior engineer who joined Halcrow in 1997. Since joining Halcrow, Damian has worked on a wide range of projects involving hydraulic and river modelling. These have included flood mapping and flood alleviation studies for the Environment Agency, flood risk assessments for developers and water treatment works modelling for Thames Water. Damian has provided ISIS training courses for the last five years both internally to Halcrow engineers and to the Environment Agency and other consultants.

Peter Glover (Eur Ing, PR.Eng, MSc, PhD, MIMechE CEng)

Laura Baird

Peter is the Halcrow lead hydraulic transient specialist. He has been involved in transient analyses, forensic investigations and hydraulic consulting ad training for 20 years. He has been involved in pressure transients in a variety of industries including: water, waste water, hydropower, power, cooling systems, petrochemicals, and in the manufacturing industry.

Simon Kovacevic (BEng)

Laura Baird

Simon is a civil engineer who joined Halcrow in 2003 and has eight years engineering consultancy experience dealing with design of flood defences, channel rehabilitation and development assessment. Simons speciality is integrated hydrological and hydraulic modelling of river networks and he has a great depth of experience in both 1D and 2D hydraulic modelling using various software packages. Simon provides both in-house and external training for the use of TUFLOW for 2D hydraulic modelling.

Andrew Lowe (BSc, MSc, PhD)

Laura Baird

Andrew is a senior hydrologist who joined Halcrow in 2001. Andrew is a specialist in flood estimation procedures, flood risk management, hydrological and hydraulic modelling for flood mapping, and flow forecasting. Prior to joining Halcrow Andrew worked as a Leverhulme Trust research fellow in Canada where he developed hydrological models for mountain basins. Andrew has taught geography and environmental studies to undergraduate students in UK and Canada, and has taught the FEH training course for the last year

Darren Price (BSc, MSc)

Laura Baird

Darren is a Senior Coastal Modeller who joined Halcrow in 2002 and has 16 years experience in modelling coastal, estuary and river environments. One of Darren’s areas of expertise is morphodynamic modelling, for which he has successfully applied some of the leading modelling software tools (MIKE21, Delft3D and Telemac) to a wide range of engineering and research projects.

Shirel Saranga (BEng, CEng, MCIWEM, MICE)

Laura Baird

Shirel is a chartered civil engineer with over nine years hydraulic, hydrology and river engineering experience. Shirel is a project director who has worked on strategic flood risk assessments, flood risk assessment and flood alleviation schemes. Shirel is experienced in the preparation of tender documents, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, flood alleviation schemes and detailed design.
