Introduction to Probabilistic Flood Modelling

Overview

Flood risk management increasingly relies on probabilistic modelling to understand the sources of flood risk. Probabilistic modelling allows us to understand both the variability in the natural processes that generate flooding, and the uncertainty generated by our flood models, and to use this understanding to make informed decisions.

This course is aimed at those who are involved in building and running probabilistic models, and those involved in using or reviewing their outputs. The course will equip attendees with an understanding of the theory underpinning probabilistic modelling, and the skills to work with probabilistic model outputs and make informed decisions based on uncertain modelling. The course will also explore probabilistic methods used in the UK such as NaFRA and Flood Mapping From All Sources. The course assumes no prior knowledge of probabilistic methods, but some experience in hydraulic or hydrological modelling is a distinct advantage.

The course is normally taught over one day, and delivered through a series of presentations, hands-on practicals and open discussion sessions.

The course can be tailored to your specific requirements, contact us for details. If you need training in specific topics not listed below please contact us to discuss your needs.
