TUFLOW - Flood and Tide Simulation Software
Halcrow is the UK-based agent for the TUFLOW software developed by BMT WBM.
TUFLOW is a powerful computational engine that provides two-dimensional (2D) and one-dimensional (1D) solutions of the free-surface flow equations to simulate flood and tidal wave propagation. It is the dominant 2D flood and coastal inundation modelling software in the UK.

It is specifically beneficial where the hydrodynamic behaviour in coastal waters, estuaries, rivers, floodplains and urban drainage environments have complex 2D flow patterns that would be awkward to represent using traditional 1D network models.
Since 2004, over 150 organisations across fifteen countries have purchased TUFLOW, with many of the larger organisations utilising extended network licences aross offices worldwide.
Halcrow and BMT WBM (the developers of TUFLOW) went on to create the ISIS-TUFLOW link to enable models built in ISIS 1D to be dynamically linked to the TUFLOW 2D modelling package.
Existing ISIS models may be converted to ISIS-TUFLOW models with little or no amendment to the ISIS model, and minimal addition to the TUFLOW model. Models constructed in ISIS-TUFLOW build on the well proven track record of the separate ISIS and TUFLOW modelling software.

- River flooding
- Estuarine flooding
- Dam break inundation
Benefits of using ISIS-TUFLOW
- An existing ISIS model is fully compatible with the linked model.
- Combines the capability of ISIS for dealing with structures and that of TUFLOW for dealing with rapid flooding and drying processes, both of which are critical to the accuracy of flood prediction.
- Existing 1D ISIS and 2D TUFLOW models are quickly and easily converted for use in ISIS-TUFLOW.
