Spatial analysis
We use our engineering and scientific knowledge to create and manipulate data sets for solving complex problems, often in environmental management. These data can then be used as the input to some of the powerful analytical engines Halcrow has to offer, such as river flood simulation software ISIS, and our in-house shoreline and near-shore data system software.
Our clients use the information we provide in their own work, such as engineering projects and research studies.
Buenos Aires drainage stormwater analysis
 |
Data sources |
Halcrow-generated terrain model, local property data layers |
 |
Client objective |
Simulate local stormwater hydrology with signficant drainage
infrastructure detail. |
 |
Software outcome |
A complete urban GIS that links the terrain model with the urban fabric located there to simulate and assess flooding from storms. |
 |
Client benefit |
The design and construction of expensive new drainage systems is optimized, and local topography is exploited to mitigate extreme storm events. |
MDSF (Modeling decision support framework)
 |
Data sources |
High resolution govenrment base data and property
assessment information |
 |
Client objective |
Use sophisticated river modeling software in tandem with
a massive GIS database to predict flood impacts on property. |
 |
Software outcome |
The tool joins ISIS river modeling to web-based GIS to allow individual river basins to be modeled. Property impacts are calcuated parcel by parcel using extensive real estate databases. |
 |
Client benefit |
By joining accurate, mechanistic river modeling to building-level
real estate data, flood impact assesments are vastly improved. |

SANDS (Shoreline and nearshore data system)
 |
Data sources |
Public base data and rich field data |
 |
Client objective |
Store, analyse, model, and present complex data regarding
the condition and dynamic of shoreline areas. |
 |
Software outcome |
A complete analytical suite of tools with a GIS window
that integrates graphis, text, relational databases, and
GIS. A stand-alone application requiring no GIS licenses. |
 |
Client benefit |
Elimination of multiple data storage media (paper, CAD,
shapefiles, ASCII) in favor of one, integrated repository. |
