High Speed 1 wins Supreme Award
High Speed 1 (Section 2) has been awarded the ‘Judges’ Supreme Award’ in addition to winning the ‘Project over £50M’ category at the Quality in Construction Awards in London.
Rail Link Engineering (RLE), a consortium of Arup, Bechtel, Halcrow and Systra, responsible for the design and project management of HS1, collected the award along with representatives from client - Union Railways/ London & Continental Railways.
While presenting the ‘Project over £50M’ award, judges commended the use of partnering at all levels. They noted that co-locating and having a shared declaration for a zero accidents objective had created a powerful unifying effect. Judges also stated that the project team seemed “supremely dedicated” and HS1 has been “a superbly well-managed project.”
Upon presenting the ‘Judges' Supreme Award,’ the panel noted that High Speed 1 “exemplifies the pinnacle of modern British construction technique and is a true testimony to the best that the UK construction industry can offer.” The judges also noted HS1’s “enormous complexity”, “innovative techniques”, “brilliant management”, “outstanding safety record”, and “enormous regeneration impact.”
